Meet Julia Kosowsky!
Julia Kosowsky joined the Wayfinder team in 2024, bringing a wealth of teaching experience from public high schools, as well as programs like Schooner Adventures, Hurricane Island Outward Bound, Seeds of Peace, and Blueberry Harvest School. She lives in Waldo County with her partner, two dear friends, and three dogs. We caught up with her this summer and are excited to share her responses with you!
WS: What do you like best about your job?
JK: All the beings that make up Wayfinder (students, staff, family members, dogs, cats, chickens, geese, bearded dragons).
WS: When you were a kid, what did you want to be?
JK: A broadway star, president, and a part time librarian.
WS: What was your first job?
JK: I washed dishes for a catering company. I worked my way up to managing the appetizer kitchen at events. John Legend told me that he loved me because of a manchego cheese fried cracker I was making for him.
WS: Where did you grow up? What did you like about high school? What would you tell yourself now?
JK: I grew up in Lincolnville. I went to Lincolnville Central School and Camden Hills High School. I liked the beings there too. I would tell myself that there’s no right or wrong. I would tell myself that success is not being “better” than others around you, it’s when you AND your community are all able to be successful. School and grades taught me the opposite and I’m still unlearning it.
WS: Is there an experience or interest that you have that most people wouldn't guess?
JK: I picked up carpentry a few years ago and spend a lot of my spare time doing building projects for friends and teaching workshops.
WS: What hobby or interest are you most passionate about?
JK: One time a guy at a corner store I used to frequent said “I’m a jack of all trades, master of none, and can’t remember a dang thing.” I identify with that greatly.
WS: Where is your favorite spot in Maine?
JK: I really like the Wright Trail to Goose Eye Mountain in western Maine but I’m in love with so many mountains, rivers, islands, and the whole dang ocean.
WS: What are you watching right now?
JK: Im on a survivor (long story) and on a Star Wars journey right now.
WS: What is a book that you think everyone should read?
JK: Whatever you’re into! I just read Everything for Everyone, definitely gave me a lot of hope.
WS: What do you wish everyone knew about Wayfinder?
JK: I love Wayfinder because there is no competition (ok sometimes we game) and there is no time scarcity. We get to operate from a beautiful relational place without these things in the way.
WS: What are your hopes for the coming year?
JK: I hope I keep learning and laughing.
